Semiotic analysis
- There are many signs on the front cover of this magazine, one of these signs is the image of the female. This sign denotes a semi-close up of a female, it has probably been photographed in a studio, against a white background. Her hair is a light brown and is down, with some strands just coming across her face. She has little make-up on and has a natural smile. she looks like she is standing side on with her head turned to look directly at the camera.
- This sign connotes many things (it is polysemic) it could connote 'happiness', 'natural' 'beauty' .. etc
- The anchorage of this image is 'My Musical Mission!'. This anchorage uses alliteration which draws your attention to it and makes the phrase more catchy.
- At the top of the magazine is the masthead reading 'Classic fm' this is the name of the magazine. The text is large with a serif font. Some of the letters are coloured in white and some are coloured in black, The 'F' is in italic font. I think this has been done so the name of the magazine is more recognisable, and you be able to remember it.
- At the top left hand side of the magazine is a red box (on white back ground) with the words 'FREE CD!' printed inside with white text. When reading a magazine, you usually start at the top left hand corner and work your way down to the right bottom hand corner. Therefore this immediately catches your eye. As this is one of the first things you see, this could convince people to buy it as your getting a magazine and a CD for the same price.
Representation of social groups
- I think the magazine is aimed at and represents early 40's and late 50's. I think it is for people who are very interested in the classical music industry and enjoy relaxing to classical, and listening to it in their free time. I think people who buy this magazine would play a musical instrument as a hobby.
Institution
Genre convention
- The classical music magazine genre is usually aimed at older audiences (their 40's, and upwards). The classical music magazine is generally more formal because of its target audience .
Audience
- I think that the target audience for this Classical music magazine would be female gender, because of the female (looking natural) on the front cover and the colour red being a main part of the magazine, I think the age will be ranging from the age of 41-55. I think the phychographic audience would be carers and succeeder's, and on the jicnar scale they would be B. I think the people who read this classical magazine would enjoy listening to classical in their free time, would play an instrument, and maybe be a teacher who teaches music. I also think with the target audience being 'succeeder's' that females who buy this magazine are married and eat out allot.
