Question 6 - what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?
In Design
Whilst doing my magazine I have been using a programme called in design. I have used in design for working on my contents page and double page spread. In design has helped me with laying out my magazine and putting text into my magazine. As I have never used in design before doing my coursework i was very unfamiliar with the programme but over the past couple of weeks i have got the grip of it and now feel comfortable with using in design. In design allowed me to used a range of tools to benefit my magazine.
I have learnt to use the type tool to help me select my columns and where I was going to place my text. It was important that I knew how to use the type tool as for my contents page, Double page spread and Front cover i was able to put in the same about of columns on each page.
This is another tool that I learnt to use during creating my magazine (the rectangle frame tool) this tool inserts images. It was important that i knew this and how to use it correctly as it gave me complete freeness of where to place my images and didn't restrict me
This is the selection tool. When i finished my magazine I depended on this tool as I wanted everything to be in the correct position for my magazine to reach its full potential.
Photoshop
A different programme which has been a huge advantage when making my magazine is Adobe Photoshop. I used Photoshop to create the whole of my front cover but also editing some of the pictures which are on my contents page and double page spread. Photo shop allowed me to use a range of tools to create my magazine by using different fonts, different colours, text and has a wide range of choices to choose from. I also think that by using Photoshop to edit my photos made these look more appealing by maybe adjusting the lighting or cropping the image a bit. Every tool I used gave my magazine a advantage.
Blogger
Blogger is a website that I have used throughout creating and planning my magazine. I have learnt to use this by being aware of where the date are on the website so it is easy and quick for me to see what i need to do next in order for my magazine to be successful. Blogger was a good website to use as i have used it to my advantage and used it as a diary.
Digital single lens reflex camera.
To take all of my photo's which are included within my magazine I used a digital single lens reflex camera. I was familiar with this camera that is why I chose to use this rather than a normal camera. I also used this as the image was better quality. I learnt about the lighting of the camera and used this as an advantage when taking the photos for my magazine.
Question 5
Question 5 - How did you attract/address your audience?
I think i was successful with reaching my target audience. When I showed my magazine to my target audience who were passionate about classical music, these people all agreed that they would buy my magazine and their response was highly positive. One of the people who i interviewed believed that the colours overall but especially on the contents page was highly effective. She said that the colours and font help to recognise the genre of the magazine. When I interviewed my target audience they gave me some positives but also some criticisms.

Gender- male
Age- 57
Does my magazine look like a real magazine?
Yes the magazine looks like a real magazine.
Being a classical music Lister yourself, would you buy this magazine based on what i have included on the front cover?
I'm not entirely sure that the magazine appeals to me, the stories inside seem a bit feminine if you like. But i like the look of the top classical musicians or something like that that you have placed on your front cover.
do you understand the language used in the double page spread?
Yes the language is very easy to read.
Is the font clear to read?
I think on the front cover the colours that you have used on the background sink in a little. Its quite hard to see what is said. I also think that maybe the font is a little to italic on the double page spread to make out.
Looking at the double page spread, contents page and front cover is there anything that you would change?
I would maybe make the contents page a little more busy, i think it seems a little bare. Also Maybe make the magazine look a little mescaline.
Would you change the layout of any of the magazine?
No the layout looks good. Maybe the image on the double page spread could be a bit bigger.
Being a classical music Lister yourself, does the whole magazine appeal to you?
Probably not, it think that the magazine is very feminine, and i would be more interested to look at different instruments.
Question 4
Question 4- Who would be your target audience for your media product?
My media magazine was a classical music magazine. When i researched into this i had a good idea of my target audience with the music genre in mind. Now that I have mad my magazine my target audience is roughly they same. They will still fall into the A-C section on the jincar scale and on the phychographic audience would be people who believe that the world is worth caring for and want to achieve something in life. During my planning i descided i wanted my audience to be in the age range of 40-60 but now i have made the magazine i would change the age to 25-60 as i think my magazine can be targeted to younger audiences and classical music has a wide rage of audiences. Before i said that my target audience would be people who enjoy eating out at high class restaurants and have something to do with mucis in their profession. I also said they would shop in high class shops such as house of fraiser and marks and spencers. Looking at what i said my target audience was going to be like i still agree with this and think my magazine was successful in reaching its target audience.
I asked someone from my target audience a few questions to see what they thought of my magazine

Question 2
Question 2- How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
I believe i have represented my social group in
a positive way. I believe I have used alternative representation, as
normally the models which are used are in the target audience age range but i
have chosen to use a younger model for a older target audience, this is very
uncommon and challenges dominant representation. On my front cover I have used
an image of a young model who is staring directly at the camera, she is sat
comfortably on a arm chair. This could connote that she is relaxed and peaceful
and connotes that my chosen social group is relaxed and peaceful to. By my
model looking calm this reinforces dominant representation. My model is wearing
a grey speckled jumper. I have chosen quite a subtle colour for her to wear so
it is not so in your face, it also shows my social group being a casual
audience, this is typical for an older audience.
My contents page contains three images. The first image is of a
different younger model who is stood side on and again looking directly at the
camera. In this picture she is looking very serious which could suggest that
she takes her music very serious. By this image my magazine could represent the
social group as dedicated musicians and people who are serious about their
music.
My image on my double page spread is of three models. I believe with the
props (candle, sofa), colours (burgundy, black and white) make it look quite
angelic which represents my social group as soft.
I believe that with the three colours I have kept with within my
magazine which are burgundy, black and white, help to reinforce dominant
ideology.
With making young people look sophisticated shows that i have
represented my social group positivity as my magazine has shown how they
have worked towards their dream and shows them as hardworking and ambitious
young adults. As normally young adults are shown as wild and drunk young
adults. This is alternative representation as i am not showing young adults as
going out and causing trouble, it is also challenging dominant
ideology.

I first decided that i was going to take my photo's in the extension of my house. I took these photos, with my chosen model, but was disappointed with the results and the lighting. Therefore I decided to retake my photo's the next weekend. unfortunately, I came to the conclusion that the extension was to dark to get any decent pictures and my model was busy that weekend. So I took my photo's in my living room with three different models. These photographs came out better than I had hoped.

Target Audience
My target auiance are going to be both male and female who fall into A-C on the jincar scale. On the phychographic audience would be people who believe that the world is worth caring for, and they want to achieve something in life. My target age rage for my magazine would be adults raging from 40 - 60, because this is the typical age that listen to classical music. My target audiance would be people who enjoy eating out at high class restaurants, and are not afraid to complain if the food are not up to their standard. They would have something to do with music in their job, teaching music, etc. Some of the audiancce would be religious, singing in choir at church. My audiance, because of their age, would shop at shops such are Marks and Spencers, House of fraiser ETC. The audiance will be married and share their musical interests together by going to theaters.
Time Management for Production
5th of November- Planning Completed.
5th of November- 9th of november- Edit photo with Photoshop.
9th of November - 14th - Create a front page using Photoshop.
14th of November - 19th - Create a contents page using In-Design.
19th of November - 27th - Create a double page spread using Photoshop.
In order for my magazine design to run smoothly, I am going to create a plan and plan my time carefully. Setting realistic deadlines.
All of my research will be finished by the 5Th of November
Time management- I will create a schedule of when my magazine will be finished. i will break it down into sections and give myself clear deadlines and stick to them.
Research target audience- I will create an audience profile on my target audience. As well as identifying what music style they like I will mention things about their lifestyle.
Models - I will find suitable models for my magazine. I will make sure my models are willing to be photographed. I will also take photographs of my chosen models and upload these images to my blog.
Organisation of of locations/permission- I will know the destination of which my photographedThursday, 25 October 2012
Double page spread
- This double page spread is laid out in six columns. The first two columns is filled with a picture of a elderly male playing the piano. The male was also shown in a cover line in the contents page. The male is in a suit, looking at the music. The picture is edited in black and white, which in my opinion, sets the atmosphere. There are additional images used in the fifth column. There is a pull quote in the third column.
- The text again is written in a formal text which could appeal for their target audience. Also the double page spread is not crowded, and is very simple, there is not much colour used. This could also appeal to their target audience.

Contents Page.
- There are two sections to this contents page. The top half is filled with three images and the bottom half names 'contents'. There are three columns of the contents. The third column is a advertisement of the article '50 greatest records of all time' This is directly in the middle which we could assume that it is important. The colours used for this is gold, white, red, black, which are normally seen as quite royal colours.
- I think that the target audience for this would be around 47-65. I think this because the article '50 greatest records of all time looks quite vintage, which could suggest that the magazine was made for the older generation, and there is a article on opera which is typically aimed at older people. Also the language used in the contents page is quite formal, which again could suggest that it was targeting the older generation. I think that the gender that was aimed for was both female and male. i think this because he colours used are quite neutral.
- The language used in the contents page, such as 'A month in music' 'on your Christmas CD' etc. This could suggest that the magazine was made near Christmas. which could explain why they have used the 'traditional' colour red.

Semiotic analysis
- The main sign on the front cover is of an image of a man. This male has been photogrpahed. He is sat on a bench, against a brick background. The man is sat crossed leg , with one hand on the arm of the bench and his other on his lap. He is photographed straight but his head is turned to the left
- The sign could connote him looking relaxed, happy, taking in the moment.
- The anchorage of this sign is 'Pierre-Laurent Aimard. French revolution at aldeburgh' This anchorage is showing us that the man in the picture is famous. By the looks of the photo, he could be listening to classical music, he is smirking which could suggest that he is happy and proud of the music.
- At the top of the magazine is the masthead, with the 'Classical' being in a italic font and bigger than the word 'music'. With the classical being in a bigger font could suggest that they want the audience to recognise its a classical magazine.
- Towards the left of the image are cover lines, With the main heading being in a sky blue colour and the information underneath coloured in white. There are also cover lines towards the bottom left hand side.
- At the right hand bottom side of the magazine is the bar code and the price tag. The price is in a small text which could suggest that it is quite expensive, therefore they wouldn't want it to be the first thing the buyers see.
Double page spread
- The top half of this double page spread is an image of a choir, in a church. The image is taken side on. The masthead is on the right hand side of the two pages reading 'last choirs standing', this is in a serif font. The bottom half of the two pages is text about the article. These are laid out in 6 columns, with a image taking up one of the columns. In the centre of the fifth column is a brown box with a pull quote from the article.

Contents page of a classical music magazine
- The top half of the page is filled with images of articles that are going to be included within the magazine. The images contain famous people within the classical music industry. People who are into classical music and enjoy listening to famous and popular artists, seeing this will make them want to read on. Towards the right hand side of the page is a grean circle which contains an advert about what you can recieve free inside the magazine. because this is a different colour, it draws your attention to it.
- The middle of the page, says what month it is, which is common for a magazine. below this is this is the contents which will be included in the magazine. There are page references, the number coloured in a bright orange colour and the writing in coloured in black.

Semiotic analysis
- There are many signs on the front cover of this magazine, one of these signs is the image of the female. This sign denotes a semi-close up of a female, it has probably been photographed in a studio, against a white background. Her hair is a light brown and is down, with some strands just coming across her face. She has little make-up on and has a natural smile. she looks like she is standing side on with her head turned to look directly at the camera.
- This sign connotes many things (it is polysemic) it could connote 'happiness', 'natural' 'beauty' .. etc
- The anchorage of this image is 'My Musical Mission!'. This anchorage uses alliteration which draws your attention to it and makes the phrase more catchy.
- At the top of the magazine is the masthead reading 'Classic fm' this is the name of the magazine. The text is large with a serif font. Some of the letters are coloured in white and some are coloured in black, The 'F' is in italic font. I think this has been done so the name of the magazine is more recognisable, and you be able to remember it.
- At the top left hand side of the magazine is a red box (on white back ground) with the words 'FREE CD!' printed inside with white text. When reading a magazine, you usually start at the top left hand corner and work your way down to the right bottom hand corner. Therefore this immediately catches your eye. As this is one of the first things you see, this could convince people to buy it as your getting a magazine and a CD for the same price.
Representation of social groups
- I think the magazine is aimed at and represents early 40's and late 50's. I think it is for people who are very interested in the classical music industry and enjoy relaxing to classical, and listening to it in their free time. I think people who buy this magazine would play a musical instrument as a hobby.
Institution
Genre convention
- The classical music magazine genre is usually aimed at older audiences (their 40's, and upwards). The classical music magazine is generally more formal because of its target audience .
Audience
- I think that the target audience for this Classical music magazine would be female gender, because of the female (looking natural) on the front cover and the colour red being a main part of the magazine, I think the age will be ranging from the age of 41-55. I think the phychographic audience would be carers and succeeder's, and on the jicnar scale they would be B. I think the people who read this classical magazine would enjoy listening to classical in their free time, would play an instrument, and maybe be a teacher who teaches music. I also think with the target audience being 'succeeder's' that females who buy this magazine are married and eat out allot.

Construction Schedule
Construction Schedule
First I will take my photograph of the female. I will take my photograph with the woods behind the female. the female will be quite a distance away from the trees, as this will give the background a blurry effect. I will take a range of photos so I have a couple to choose from.I will then upload these photo's onto the computer and choose which one, i think, will be best for my magazine.
Once I have decided what image is best, I will then choose what text I want on my magazine cover. I have designed a rough example of what I want my magazine cover to look like.
Looking at my plan, I will decide where I want to position my text that will also complement the image.
Then looking at the theme of my magazine cover I will decide what colour I will want my text, again complementing the image and the theme.

How I will connote these connotations
How I will connote these connotations
To connote these connotations I will construct signs I could include photographs of females on their own in their bedroom or living room. These women could be snuggled up in a duvet with a cup of tea. I would also show a window in the background with it being night time. This could also connote the winter nights and the coldness. The women could be drinking a cup of Tea or watching television. This could connote relaxation. The colours I would include would be blues (midnight blue). I would would not have a serif font, I would have the font italic so again it connotes the relaxation.I could also show a image of a female in the woods, dressed in warm clothing. this could connote her being independent and winter. the female could be holding folders.

The headline of this magazine is positioned on the top left hand side of the cover. The main image is of a women dressed in a hot pink, sweet heart dress. the women is outlined on a white background. The women is smiling which could connote happiness, confidence, natural. There is a Subhead positioned under the head line, this subhead in in a Serif font, coloured in black. Below the subhead is text that tells you what discount you can get at certain shops. The amount of discount is in a larger text and in a hot pink colour. This immediately catches your eye. Towards the bottom of the magazine cover, a large, thick strip of yellow spreads across the image. In this strip is an advertisement of a new magazine. Again this immediately catches your eye.
