Question 2

Question 2- How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I believe i have represented my social group in a positive way. I believe I have used alternative representation, as normally the models which are used are in the target audience age range but i have chosen to use a younger model for a older target audience, this is very uncommon and challenges dominant representation. On my front cover I have used an image of a young model who is staring directly at the camera, she is sat comfortably on a arm chair. This could connote that she is relaxed and peaceful and connotes that my chosen social group is relaxed and peaceful to. By my model looking calm this reinforces dominant representation. My model is wearing a grey speckled jumper. I have chosen quite a subtle colour for her to wear so it is not so in your face, it also shows my social group being a casual audience, this is typical for an older audience.
My contents page contains three images. The first image is of a different younger model who is stood side on and again looking directly at the camera. In this picture she is looking very serious which could suggest that she takes her music very serious. By this image my magazine could represent the social group as dedicated musicians and people who are serious about their music.
My image on my double page spread is of three models. I believe with the props (candle, sofa), colours (burgundy, black and white) make it look quite angelic which represents my social group as soft.
I believe that with the three colours I have kept with within my magazine which are burgundy, black and white, help to reinforce dominant ideology.
With making young people look sophisticated shows that i have represented my social group positivity as my magazine has shown how they have worked towards their dream and shows them as hardworking and ambitious young adults. As normally young adults are shown as wild and drunk young adults. This is alternative representation as i am not showing young adults as going out and causing trouble, it is also challenging dominant ideology.
